Reverend Michael A. Renninger
The Reverend Michael A. Renninger—in 1993 ordained a priest in the Catholic Diocese of Richmond—has since 1997 also served as Vicar for Vocations, encouraging and supporting young men considering the priesthood.
“Father Mike” as he’s often called, provides a fount of experience and insight one-on-one, at college campus appearances and through new online initiatives. His warm smile and relaxed demeanor offer reassurance as young men weigh the many important concerns related to the exploration of a truly unique vocation.
He maintains fitness with regular workouts at Gold’s Gym and running the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K, often networking during training to recruit fellow priests, seminarians and prospective priests to join him.Father Mike is a native of Pennsylvania and earned degrees in Philosophy and Music History. He became a monk at Daylesford Abbey, and later earned degrees in Theology and Liturgy from the Catholic University of America.
He has also served as parish priest in Newport News and Hopewell. His 1997 appointment as Vicar for Vocations, then part-time, became a fulltime endeavor in June, 2005. In addition to these duties, he also served as Rector of St. Bridget Catholic Church and Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, both in Richomond.
His life-long love of music took shape early. He studied guitar and voice as a high school student, and his interest in music remains avid. He recently produced a series of recitals at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond, along with concerts and recitals at parishes throughout Virginia.
Whether administering to his parishioners, counseling with aspirants to the priesthood or organizing a musical performance, Father Mike’s commitment, spirit and unflagging zest for life continue are a credit to him, his Church and vocation.
